Word High July: Maharlika and Musmos

via areadingwritr

Salut! It’s been a while since I’ve been able to compose something. I decided to take a little break to pursue other things, reflect, and ponder. At some point, I’ll come to a decision about blogging, but not today.

This is going to be my last post regarding Word High July. With six more words to go, I only managed to write words to two of them. I’ll save the others for another time. I want to thank Rose for hosting such a wonderful event. I had fun learning new words as I worked on my writing, and I’ll definitely participate in the other one.

So, let’s begin:

Maharlika: royal, noble, regal; high or great by birth, rank, or in character

This piece was inspired by the events in Revelation 1 and 19. Everyone claims to be king, but the King of kings will return to claim what’s rightfully His (Rev. 11:15), and in the meantime, we should watch (Matthew 25:13).

We must not wait to declare Jesus our Savior until we can see Him with our physical eyes. We must accept Him by faith, not fact, to be saved.

Even so, come Lord Jesus!

And finally, I come to this word:

Musmos: child, naive, innocent

It pretty much explain itself.

Thank you for joining me on this journey.

Word High July: Alaala, a tribute to Daft Punk’s ‘RAM’

via areadingwritr

Salut! I’m back, back, back again with another Word High July post. It’s currently over, but I still have a few words to go. This brings us to:

Alaala: a memory, keepsake, remembrance

Now, I had so many ideas to write, but I decided to write a tribute to Daft Punk’s last and greatest album, Random Access Memories or simply RAM. When I returned to writing short stories a few months ago, this album was my constant background musical companion, as I wrote late into the night. This album taught me about music layers, composition, and appreciation. It makes one look beyond the lyrics, ponder about life and love. It allows you to remember that joy is ever present, whether in dancing, loving, or living. It makes you pause and think.

I can’t speak music’s language (yet), but RAM is teaching me so much after all these years. I’m in no way endorsing DP or encouraging you to go out and buy/listen to RAM; I’m just in my musical feels. 😃 🎶

So, this piece is dedicated to my favorite album of all time, RAM. The 13 blue bold words are the titles of the songs featured on the album. The line “French Touch was rooted in silver and gold” refers to Thomas and Guy-Man’s helmets and their contribution to French House music.

Word High July: Tadhana and Iniirog, a combination

via areadingwritr

I’m still enjoying this series! I’ve decided to fuse Tadhana and Iniirog together…

Tadhana: destiny, fate

Iniirog: someone dear, a person who is deeply loved

…to create this:

I have no idea where those words came from; the mind wanders to strange territories sometimes… but I like it!

Word High July: Hiraya and Pagsamo

via areadingwritr

*Sighs* I didn’t forget about Word High. It’s just that lately, I’ve been so tired that I didn’t want to overuse what little energy I saved. I wrote words to the prompts, but I was not in any shape to look for templates and type into it. I’m still tired, so once again, I may not be as active as I would like to be, so I may take a few months off if it comes to that.

Anyway, here’s what I came up with for the mentionable in the title.

Hiraya: vision, illusion; figuratively means the fruit of one’s hopes and dreams.

Pagsamo: plea, appeal, a fervent prayer

As for this prompt, I was editing a poem I wrote in June when I decided to share an excerpt, and it fitted perfectly! Unfortunately, the piece is still untitled. I wrote it to show that God is not a last resort and that we should go to Him immediately even in all of our filthiness. We shouldn’t attempt to fix things, as it’ll only get worse. I’ll share the poem in its entirety one day. For now, a little peek:

Word High July: Hele and Dapit-Hapon

via areadingwritr

Do you know what song I’m currently feeling? Silk Sonic’s ‘Leave the Door Open’, which takes me to the 3rd prompt:

Hele: lullaby, a tender song sang to put a child to sleep

My lullaby game is weak, so I tried to imagine the moon “singing” to a sleeping child, and this is the end result:

Clair de Lune is French for moonlight. Although short, I had fun writing this piece. I also worked on the 4th prompt:

Dapit-Hapon: twilight, sunset, gloaming

With every sunset, a promise is given, and so this bit inspired by just that.

I just realized that the word ‘pink’ is kind of barely visible. It would’ve shown up on a ‘one-color background’ had I not wanted the template to look sunsetty, so I apologize for the overlook.

Word High July: Mahal

via areadingwritr

We’re two-halves of one solid combination. There’s balance there – completeness between us,

Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo

Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo (@GuyHomem) | Twitter

So the Guy-Man said while talking about his other Daft Punk half, Thomas Bangalter, and I decided that I wanted to dedicate this piece to, well, other halves. Let’s take a look at the second word for this month:

Mahal: love, dear, beloved

Man, am I slow or what when it comes to writing these prompts! I love this word, though! It’s soft and musical sounding to the ear. When I first saw the word, I knew what the title of this one was going to be: Ma Moitié. It’s French for ‘my other half’. I wanted to dedicate this piece to the epic, iconic, disastrous French poems I’ve read and had second thoughts about, but it didn’t turn out so. Here’s the first ramble:

Mon chéri,
Love has no law
stating that I can’t love you
with your imperfect flaw

put my arms around you
when you fall
run to you when you call

for you’re ma moitié

I didn’t like some of the wording, so I tweaked it just a bit, and this is the result:

This piece is sort of a draft. I’ll attempt to extend it at some point, as words seem to neglect me at the moment.

However, I couldn’t decide on one design, so I made two just for the fun of it. Let me know which one you prefer. Here’s the other one:

Bon weekend!

Word High July: Likha

via areadingwritr

In 2016, I participated in a writing prompt called ‘Word High July’! I love learning new words, so it was a great pleasure to learn Filipino words. Well, areadingwritr brought it back, and although I’m no wordsmith of sorts, I decided to partake in it once again. I was looking for a way to be more active, et voilà! I’ll take you behind the thoughts of attempting to write.

Likha: a piece of art or fiction created with intelligence and skills

This is the first prompt. I found the word adorable, and I just knew I had to contribute to it. I wanted to take a funish approach to it, so I started throwing out whatever words came to mind:

Dream it, sketch it
Stream it, etch it
Now erase it

If you’re familiar with “Technologic” by Daft Punk, you’ll understand where the thought process was heading, but that format didn’t work out as planned…

…so I went another route:

I long to set words on fire
For of this craft I’ll never tire
So I shine and polish

Although I like where this was going, I didn’t finish it. It takes a while for me to settle on something, and I eventually did after getting inspired by one of my nightly devotions about the Creator. And so, this is my contribution:

Like I said, I’m no wordsmith, but I love writing, and it’s good to be posting once again. I’ll be getting to your blog soon. Bon weekend!

Thoughts in a Cup ☕

Small goals for 2021.

As the French say: C’est la vie!

I don’t make resolutions of any sort, but I’ve written down a few goals I’ll like to accomplish in 2021.

Draw closer to Christ

There are times in my walk with Christ that I feel as if I’m not doing enough as a Christian. There are still little kinks that I need to work out where my attitude is concerned and I’ve taken the matter to God. Yet, closer, closer, the closest I could be at the feet of my Lord is where I long to be.

Return to writing

*Sighs* I haven’t written short stories or full-length ones for that matter in a long time. I have a lot of ideas backed up that I’ll like to see completed, so I’ll try my best to oil those gears soon, and share a story or two.

Be more creative

I love creating things! Lock me in a room with a laptop for a day or two, and I’ll emerge with… well, banners like what you see above or the sign-off signature at the bottom. I want to be more creative with my hands, so I’m looking to do more DIY stuff.

Read better books

This is definitely going to be a challenge. I’ve discovered whether outdated or modern, books do not live up to the standard that I hold them to. And most of these books – classic to modern – seem to enjoy mocking Christ. There are Christians that may say they’re not offended, but true Christians know not to mix matters when it comes to mocking our Lord and Savior.

Draw better

I’ve taken up drawing once again. Although I’m no expert, I’m excited to be relearning to draw since I’ve been out of touch with this practice. So far, I’ve been loving it, but I’ve stopped for a while… yet, again. I hope to share some of my amateur creations with you soon.

Make memories

It doesn’t matter where I’ll be or who I’m with, I’m determined to create wonderful memories!

When I next post, it’ll be 2021. We’ve made it through 2020 because of God despite the circumstances. Let us keep looking towards His guidance as 2021 approaches.

All the best for 2021!
